Having a Dual Zanpakuto is extremely rare in Bleach.However it doesn't determine its wielder's strengths or weaknesses.













A Zanpakuto in its sealed form doesn't do much damage than a normal katana.But it can be turned into a deadly weapon once it is  released into 'Shikai' or 'Bankai.'Abilities and appearance of each Zanpakuto's are entirely different. A Soul reaper has the ability to  communicate with his Zanpakuto and has a special spiritual connection with it.

The released form of most of the Zanpakuto is a single weapon,like a sword,axe, or a spear.However, every once in a while,a Zanpakuto will have two blades.Shunsui,Ukitake and Ichigo are the only soul reapers in Bleach who possess a Dual zanpakuto.However, it doesn't determine its wielder's strengths or weaknesses.

     

The secret behind Dual zanpakuto:


Having a Dual Zanpakuto is extremely rare in Bleach.Ukitake Jushiro and Kyoraku Shunsui  were the only wielders of a Dual Zanpakuto  until TYBW arc.Shunsui and Ukitake have two separate  blades.But Ukitake's blades are connected to each other with some sort of string.


  Later Ichigo gains two blades after realising his true powers as a Quincy and soul reaper.Gaining a Dual Zanpakuto only happens when external factors are involved where an additional spirit is residing in the soul reapers Zanpakuto.


How they got a Dual Zanpakuto:












1.Ichigo Kurosaki

   Ichigo got his Dual Zanpakuto by combining Quincy and soul reaper powers.His two blades are different in shape and size.The smaller one represents his Quincy powers and the larger one represents his soul reaper powers.

2.Kyoraku Shunsui

   Shunsui's Katen Kyokotsu is a pair of black swords.In his backstory Shunsui was trusted to hide his brothers Zanpakuto.Later he got his own Zanpakuto after becoming a soul reaper, whichwas able to store another spirit in the form of an identical sword.


3.Ukitake Jushiro

   Ukitake's Sogyo no Kotowari is a pair of similiar looking  swords connected by a large red rope.The reason behind his Dual Zanpakuto is revealed in the final arc of Bleach.Mimihagi-A separate existence residing within him,which is a fallen deity that once was the right hand of the soul king that saved his life when he was a child.
